Terms of Business

The Consumer Protection Code from The Central Bank requires each regulated entity to issue Terms of Business. OBS People Power Holdings Limited, trading as “One Big Switch” is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

  1. OBS People Power Holdings Ltd, trading as “One Big Switch” is incorporated in Ireland, Company Number 53674 with registered offices at Suite 7, The Mall, Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin 18. VAT number IE3237738IH. “One Big Switch” is authorised and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland as an Insurance/ Reinsurance Intermediary under the European Communities (Insurance Intermediaries) Regulations, 2005 and as a Mortgage Intermediary under the Consumer Credit Act 1995 (as amended). A copy of the document confirming our registration is available on request. You may also verify our authorisation by contacting the Central Bank of Ireland on 1890 777777 or by visiting the Central Bank website www.centralbank.ie. As a firm regulated by the Central Bank, we are subject to ongoing regulatory obligations to include, but not limited to the Minimum Competency Code (2011), Consumer Protection Code (2012) and Fitness & Probity Standards all aimed at affording protection to consumers. These codes have been issued by the Central Bank of Ireland and are available on their website.

  2. One Big Switch is not regulated by the purposes of the Big Bank Switch, the Big Energy Switch or for any telecommunications campaigns which it may run.

Should you have any queries regarding the services provided by One Big Switch, please contact us at our registered office or email: contact@onebigswitch.ie One Big Switch is a network established to build consumer power to obtain discounted products for consumers. We ask consumers to register on our website (www.onebigswitch.ie) and provide us with their name, contact details and relevant information. One Big Switch is free to join and is obligation free. Using the collective buying power of our members, we use online campaigns to negotiate with product producers on our members’ behalf for new or more affordable products. Once we have secured an offer of a product/products we then present the offer/s to our members by email and our members are free to choose whether or not they wish to consider the offer/s further and switch to the product producer with whom One Big Switch has negotiated the offer. We do not charge our members any fees.

  4. One Big Switch is authorised to carry on its Mortgage Intermediary business on behalf of MDC Mortgage Brokers Ltd trading as Irish Mortgage Brokers.
    We do not engage in any advisory services with our members in relation to any of the product offers we may present to them. The product producer will provide any advisory services relating to the particular product. We do not engage in any telephone communication with our members regarding any offers we present and all communication with our members is done through our website and by email. There is no obligation on our members to accept any offer/s we may negotiate on their behalf.     One Big Switch is a “profit for purpose” enterprise. The relevant product producer pays One Big Switch a commission for every member who successfully obtains a product pursuant to an offer. For every member who switches their mortgage to the Ulster Bank special offer, One Big Switch will earn a commission up to 0.8% of the amount borrowed. For every member who switches their mortgage to an Irish Mortgage brokered. 

  5. One Big Switch will earn a commission up to 50% of the commission earned by Irish Mortgage Brokers. Please note that Product Providers may charge specific fees in certain circumstances and if this applies, these fees will be specified in writing by the Product Provider.

  1. At One Big Switch we aim to avoid any conflicts of interest when providing services to our members and have in place, a conflict of interest policy to avoid this occurring. However, should an unavoidable conflict of interest occur we will advise affected members in advance of the notification of any product/s or offer/s available to them.) for further details governing the terms of membership

  2. OBS People Power Holdings Ltd, trading as “One Big Switch” is committed to handling the personal information you have provided in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988. Information provided by you will be used to contact you in relation to current and future offers you have expressed, or may have a future interest in. If you would like a copy of the information we hold about you, please write to: Suite 7, The Mall, Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin 18. A fee of €6.35 should be enclosed with your request for your data. Should you discover any errors or omissions in the personal data held by us, or wish to change any of the uses of the data please contact us. One Big Switch would like to use your details to keep you informed of other products or services offered by us or any third party with whom we may arrange such services. If you would rather not receive this information, and have not already informed us of this please let us know. Your details may be used for these purposes after the time period of the offer for which you signed up has elapsed.

  3. We at One Big Switch are committed to providing a high standard of service at all times. We aim to respond to complaints in a courteous, timely and fair manner, endeavouring to address specific issues raised by our members and where appropriate to update our procedures to avoid re-occurrence of similar issues. One Big Switch has in place a written procedure for the effective handling of complaints. Please contact us to discuss any concerns you may have. If you feel dissatisfied with our handling of your complaint in relation to any regulated business you may refer the matter to the Financial Services Ombudsman Bureau, 3rd Floor, Lincoln House, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2. Subject to any rights of appeal, decisions made by the Financial Services Ombudsman Bureau are binding in their entirety on parties to whom they are addressed. A full copy of our complaints procedure is available upon written request.

  1. The terms of business set out herein apply from the date of your submission of data and by virtue of this, your becoming a “Member” of One Big Switch. These terms of business will continue to be effective until such time as you formally advise us of your wish to no longer be a member, or unsubscribe from our service.

  2. One Big Switch is a member of the Investor Compensation Scheme which was set up under the Investor Compensation Act 1998. This scheme provides compensation to clients, as set out in the Act, in certain circumstances, which provides that compensation is payable where money or investment instruments held by our company on your behalf cannot be returned for the time being or in the future. Where a client is eligible for compensation the amount payable is the lesser of 90%of the recognized loss or €20,000.
